Mr. Peter Schaapveld
Peter Schaapveld has practiced as a Clinical Psychologist and Forensic Psychologist in the United Kingdom since 1990 and held Consultant level posts in the United Kingdom NHS since 1997. He is registered with the British Psychological Society and the UK Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) as a Clinical Psychologist and a Forensic Psychologist. In addition, he is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS).
Peter Schaapveld’s professional practice has taken place in all forensic mental health settings (i.e. forensic mental health hospitals, prisons/probation, primary/secondary care, community) and at all levels of security, including high security hospitals and prisons. He has gained a wide-ranging experience of the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorder, neuro-cognitive/neuropsychological assessment, neurodevelopmental disorder and offending behaviour; including issues of criminal responsibility/culpability and formal risk assessment in both the adult and adolescent population. He has led and managed clinical forensic psychology departments within the NHS. He has taught on forensic mental health issues and related law topics to Clinical Doctorate programmes and have delivered NHS staff training events in forensic clinical psychology and formal risk assessment. He has written articles, delivered conferences papers and seminars in forensic mental health and risk assessment. I has also provided formal reports to UK Courts (criminal and civil) and Tribunals (Mental Health Tribunals, Parole Boards) on many occasions and has given expert testimony in-person, again on many occasions.
In addition to his professional Psychology qualifications he also holds the UK Law Society’s post-graduate Diploma in Law and a Master of Laws degree (University of London).
