Dr Amit Chatterjee is a consultant in Forensic Psychiatry. He is registered as a medical practitioner with the General Medical Council and is on the Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry. He is approvied under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act and as such is recognised as having special expertise in the assessment and treatment of mental disorders. He currently works as an inpatient consultant at Thornford Park Hopsital, overseeing the care of 21 inpatients across medium and low secure wards - however he has experience of working in high and low secure hospital settings and within the prison estate. Dr Chatterjee also regularly gives evidence for the purposes of Mental Health Review Tribunals, Hospital Managers Hearing and assisting the court.
Dr Chatterjee's recent experience means his able to provide reports to the Mental Health Review Tribunal as an independent expert, as well as provide reports around risk assessment and management of mental disorders linked to violence (using structured professional judgement tools such as the HCR-20). In addition he is confidencnt in providing reports to the Parol Board (speaking to issues of risk management) and to Court in addressing issues of Fitness to Plead and, if needed, disposal following conviction. He regularly undertakes Capacity Assessments and has been appointed as a Special Visitor to the Court of Protection (via the Office of the Public Guardian)
